What can the money be spent on?
AHDC money can be used to pay for additional staff, staff training and equipment or resources. The idea is to allow disabled children and young people to have the same experiences and chances as every child or young person.
Who is eligible?
Families in receipt of Higher Rate Disability Living Allowance (DLA) for their child or young person, aged 0-19 years. Generally, this will mean that the child or young person has a complex disability relating to their mobility or care needs.
What is available to families?
Families can claim 19 weekday or weekend activity sessions, each lasting up to three hours, and 5 days holiday care, each lasting up to six hours every year.
What is a short break?
A short break is a positive activity for a child or young person and an opportunity for a parent or carer to have a break from caring.
What types of activities can funding be used for?
This could be either activity sessions specifically targeting disabled people or mainstream activities that cater for the specific need of disabled children and young people.
What funding is available?
If you are providing a short break activity to an eligible child or young person, you will be able to claim up to £6.50 per hour per child up to the maximum hours per session. This will be in addition to the fee paid by all users.
