Sport Medicine Support
Southampton University Hospital Trust & Basingstoke Area Sport Injury Clinic
Injuries that are not recognised or treated restrict performance.
- Performance can be enhanced with expert sports medicine support.
Southampton University Hospital Trust's and Basingstoke Area Sport Injury Clinic chartered physiotherapists can provide first class assessment, treatment and advice to a wide range of sporting injuries and conditions.
With their training in musculosketal problems, use of exercise and understanding of the physiology involved in sports training and performance, the hospital's trained physiotherapists can be an invaluable member of the athlete's team. The team's expertise is not confined to their professional training. They have the added value of sports specific expertise either through playing the sports themselves and/or by working alongside elite performers. The service provides:
- A well equipped NHS Department with a gymnasium, hydrotherapy pool, treatment, together with staff trained in complimentary medicine such as acupuncture
- Prompt diagnosis, appropriate management of an injury without the need for a medical referral, often within hours of the injury occurring
- A physiotherapy service at training, competition and events
- Education service on relevant topics such as warm-up, first aid and flexibility
