Quality clubs
What should I look for in a club?
When you are looking for a suitable club there are a number of things to consider:
Is the club official?
All clubs listed on this site have been signed off by a Local Authority Sports Development Officer as being suitable to be listed on this facility. This means that you can be confident that the club has been vetted by the sports industry.
Is the club affiliated?
If a club is affiliated this means that it is an established club which has signed up to its sport’s National Governing Body (the official Country association which directs and drives forward developments in a particular sport e.g. The FA or RFU). Each National Governing Body sets standards which clubs must meet in order to be affiliated. An affiliated club is a sign of a good quality club.
Is the club accreditated?
If a club is accreditated it is considered ‘child friendly’. It will offer sporting opportunities for children and will have been checked out by its National Governing Body (the official Country association which directs and drives forward developments in a particular sport e.g. The FA or RFU). Accreditation is a tough standard to achieve and is a very good sign of a well run sports club.
